Just wondering where it’s at exactly. I’ve heard to the drivers side of the steering column but also behind the glove box, just trying to get the fan working to drive it lol

I think it is behind the glove box. I know it is a high failure rate item.

Could always get a universal fan controller, either mechanical or electrical, and use that to operate the fan. That way you could set the fan to turn on at any temp you want, and would likely be cheaper that getting a replacement failure prone OEM one.

OK because I kept seeing in posts etc. that it's by the steering column, I'll have to look behind the glove box though. I'm mostly trying to make sure it's OK and functioning so I can get the stock fan working

I thought about getting the fox mustang dual fan kit from late model restoration but it's like $250 and I'm a little nervous about wiring it in with the existing fan controller.

I plan on getting a 3g alternator kit soon though as well

Another option if the fan itself is bad and/or controller is bad...... Get a fan and shroud from a 92-95 Taurus 3.8 from either the JY or new on Ebay for $79. The shroud is easy to adapt to any FOX platform radiator with some easy backyard engineering. The Taurus fan is 2 speed and moves A LOT of air even on low speed. That along with an aftermarket controller and you are set. I have a Taurus fan in my 86 Tbird 5.0, and the cooling is amazing! I have a dash mounted switch to switch the fan from low to high speed via a relay, and another switch to turn it on manually if I want to for some reason. I have an electronic controller (I forget the make / model..... think I got it from Summit), but it works great, and does turn on the fan when the AC kicks in.

I would wire up a switch if necessary but I'm not sure how to exactly and I'd like to check and make sure things are working first, I have 3 different fans and I can't tell if they work, I've tried all and none have kicked in at any temperature.

The wiring from the fan back to the firewall looks good, the connector isn't in the best shape but it'll plug into the fans. I replaced the t stat and I can tell I need a heater core which I will address soon enough here.

I've heard about the Taurus fans and I was thinking the clutch fan and shroud from my 92 stand might be a possibility lol

If I put in an aftermarket adjustable controller would I basically take the fan controller and relays out and it would take its place?

To test the fans themselves, hook them up directly to a 12 battery with some 10 gauge wire.

Every aftermarket fan controller I have seen mounts under the hood, usually near the radiator. If oyu go this route, you can remove the OEM fan controller, etc, or just disconnect and leave in place.

Engine driven fans, even with clutches, havent been used since the mid 80s, and with good reason. They suck engine power and increase fuel consumption somewhat. Electric fans are the way to go.
