87 turbo coupe stock.. pass sidE fan comes on when key is turned forward also turns on when a/c is turned on and when temp gets a little higher than half on the guage.. Drivers side fan doesnt turn on when key is turned forward and doesnt turn on if car gets hot near redline.. I checked the fan and it works. I plugged in a test light to the connector and the test light never illuminated, while ignition was turned or while car was running.I had this about 12 years ago on my 88tc but cannot remember how to fix it. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

sounds like the relay is bad, have you ever check the wire leading from the computer to the relay?
The computer controls the fan relays. Pin 52, Pink wire controls the secondary fan relay and Pin 55, Tan-Org wir controls the primary fan relay.
I hear its common for the fans to kick on a little higher then the half mark on the guage, hope this helps.

i answered my own question after reading the old posts..
I also ran a code 14 and 42 when I did the code check. The car cuts out once in a while so i believe the pip is going. I was wondering where the pip is and can i get a new one. what would throw code 14?

i found the ect.. how do i check if it working or bad? Any ideas on the codes.. I sprayed 10-26 oil on the connectors and it seemed to relieve the cutting out issue but not totally.

The PIP is in the distributor. There is an article on replacement; http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/TFI-PIP/TFI-PIP.htm

However other things can yield a code 14, like plug wires or PIP/TFI wiring. Try wiggling wires with the car running. If the plug wires are old, it might be worth doing a tuneup first with new plugs and wires.

I sent you some info on testing the PIP and ECT.
An ECT can be bad and not set a code. They have to be about dead to set a code. Try testing it.
