coolant temp sensor

I just installed a digital temperature sensor and connected it to the temp gauge sending unit on the bottom of the engine. When hooked up it reads about 130* higher than it should. The temp gauge says that the engine is 320* when the fan clicks on and when the fan kicks off the coolant reads 314*. I also have a 180* thermostat installed. Does this sound like a sending unit problem or a problem with the new digital gauge that I just bought??????

Well, how about getting the correct sending unit for the digital gauge? That's your issue...

Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental..

Chuck is right... the sensor must have the electrical characteristics that match what the gauge is expecting. What you are doing is the same thing as taking a 100W 120 volt bulb out of your house and trying to use it for a fog light on your cars 12V electrical system.
