Coolant drain problem

Hello I have a 86 turbo coupe and i keep losing coolant through the drain on the firewall under the heater core. I start the car I can see a substancial amount of coolant draining from the drain. When the car is shut off the coolant still flows out until im left with a low level of fluid in my radiator. Any help would be much appreciated.

A drain on the firewall?

It sounds as if the lower hose is disconnected from the heater core.

Ya it is on the firewall behind the downpipe from the turbo. I think it is a drain, ive looked through a haynes manual and thats what i had come up with

thats the drain that tells you your heater core went bad. theres a collector under it to drain the coolant OUT of the car. either bypass the heater core, or replace it. DO NO PLUG THE HOLE, you will backflush coolant into the interior, ruining your carpet.

P.S.-if you ever see(hear) hissing coming out of this hole, or maybe see bits of clear oil, that indicates your A/C coil has gone bad...also not good.

Wow. I just learned something new. I had no idea there was a drain for the heater box.

well, there usually isnt... see its usually gone/damaged before the heater core goes out. sometimes you get lucky and dont have to wet/dry vac the interior, and sometimes you do...

All AC'd cars have a drain tube, to get rid of the condensate from the AC coils when they frist up and then thaw out. The binus is if the heater core is going, the coolant will also e trapped in the AC drain pan and if th etube is not plugged, allows the coolant to drai nout as well.
