Concerned about new injectors...

[attachment=1821]I ordered up new injectors last year, didn't get a chance to install them. I was just looking at the stuff I've got and trying to figure out my plan of attack for this year. I took the injectors out of the boxes and discovered something. When I ordered these last year I do remember that they did show up in two shipments. I got several things, and for whatever reason two of the injectors came from one warehouse and two came from a different one.
All of the boxes are the same. They've all got the same stickers on the outside. I'm sure they're the same injector, I'm just wondering do you think I should be concerned that I didn't get these as a set? I'm sure they're made to precision standards, I guess I've just spotted some things that make me wonder and I'll tell you what they are. I understand that the following do not affect the performance of the part. They're just different and it makes you wonder. The two that came from one warehouse  are the same and the two that came from the other warehouse are the same.
The two from the one warehouse come with plastic removable caps, and what looks to be like almost a plastic circlip maybe? It also says "20" in gold letters on those ones, where the other one don't say that, they don't say anything in that spot. There's four numbers printed on an area facing the opposite direction of the electoral connector on the other side. The blue cap ones say 0679 & 2017, the uncapped ones say 2739 & 0630.
The one came in a Ziploc bag the other came in a sealed bag. I know that doesn't matter, but it just makes me notice that these are obviously not all coming off the line on the same day.
I'm getting thrown some real curveballs here!  Smile

Personally, I would not install those as a set like that, especially if they came in a ziplock bag with no caps. I just looked on the googles for that 0630 number and it comes up with a Denso injector for a Chevy 5.3, no idea on the others. If you can swing it, buy a complete nice set from Stinger, many choices and VERY good prices for quality units.

^^^^ Agree 100%. I would not put those in my car for sure. Do you even know for sure if they are low or high impedance? Stock TC injectors are low impedance while most port EFI cars of the day and as well as today use high impedance injectors.

Measure their resistance. High impedance will be around 14 ohms, and low impedance will be a couple ohms.

These are FJ20 injectors made by standard motor products. Bought at Rock Auto
We wereTalking about these last year when I was looking to get my original ones cleaned and flow tested.
When I said about the Ziploc bag, I don't know if that made it sound worse. I mean a factory, small baggie. Not a home sandwich baggie someone returned it in Smile
Maybe I need to contact Rock Auto and see what they have to say.
I haven't tested anything yet, I didn't want to open the little bag on the one that is sealed. If I was to test the one that I can open is it just a matter of hooking my multi meter to either side of the leads in the electoral connector?

I suppose I could just push the leads of my multimeter through the bag too

Oh Man, you talking about Nissan FJ20 stuff?! Those were some badass engines back in the 80's. Powered the super sweet R30 RS-X Skyline, which is my favorite body style Skyline BTW. If I could get an R30 2dr coupe over here, man, just like I was back in Okinawa!

I would agree that you should not install injectors that don’t all match. However, in 1995 for some reason two of my injectors started to “leak”—they were the Ford OEM ones with the brown plastic top, and fuel was seeping out the round “hole” on both sides.

Well, I kind of panicked. Obviously you don’t want fuel coming in contact with a hot engine! I replaced them with after-market ones for about $90 each (the Ford ones were much more than that, and at that time $$ were much more of an issue). Bottom line: these same injectors performed well in the car until last December, when I replaced them with original Ford ones I got on eBay years ago.

It wasn’t my intention to replace the injectors—the Fuel Pressure Diaphragm on the fuel rail started leaking, so I replaced it, and along the way decided to also swap them out, as they’d been in there for 26 years.

(To follow up: it was a wise decision. Overall performance has greatly improved, although there is an occasional “missing idle” issue that mostly occurs at startup. I’m not convinced it’s the injectors though—I pulled codes and got nothing. I’m thinking it’s a sensor.)

I mention this just to say that it is possible to run different style injectors. The newer ones I got then had no plastic caps covering the pintle on the ends, and also did not have the brown plastic tops. Still, they all ran fine.

**BUT**—these were verified to be replacements for the OEM Ford ones. As you’ve pointed out, you need to verify the same.
Another proud dues-paying member.
