Does the same sensor control cold start idle speed and the electronic Temp control on my 86 turbo coupe?
It seems that the cold start (high idle 1500?) is tempermental and only works some of the time. This also starts the heater while the engine is still cold.

Thanks,
Mike C

No. The ECU uses the coolant temp and VAM temp. The electronic temp control is seperate. Be more specific as to what your idle problem is.

It's not that it idles bad it just doesn't idle high at start. Also the heater has been starting the fan sooner than it use too.

Not very often does my car idle all the way up to 1500 when first starting it. Usually just a few hundred rpm more than at hot and I never have a problem with it doing that.

The heater, EATC, has nothing to do with the engine or engine computer. It has it's own sensor completely independant of running functions. That's what the sensor on the heater hose is for - just the auto climate.

Check the tech articles on adjusting the idle.
As far as the fan goes that's probably something in the electronic temp control sensor or perhaps the coolant thermostat. I'm guessing here and have no experience with the eletronic temp control.

On the heater fan, it may be the temp sensor for that sytem located in one of the hoses to the heater core near the fire wall.

IT hastnt been that cold here latley. Knock on wood, my car hasnt been going up to 1.5K when I start it because its not that cold. The sensor on like Pete D said is on one of the hoses going to the heater core. Sounds like that could have gone bad.

We gotta get a Long Island event sometime in the spring or something.

Good Luck

Thanks again for the input. I've noticed a few tags from LI, grey 88 being 1 of them. I'd like to baseline my new engine as soon as the track is open this season. Maybe a day at westhampton?
Thanks again, again!
