I have searched everywhere for the wires to plug into my code scanner.
I have the large 6 wire plug but for the life of me, I cannot find the small, single wire connector to plug into the code scanner.
Is it just a ground wire ?
Does anyone know if I can I simply connect a wire grounded to the engine up to the scanner instead of the single wire connector ?
The proper single wire connector that goes to the scanner is GONE ! I have no idea where it is, where it's supposed to be or where it's hiding. AAAARGGHH!!!
Please help if you have any advice and THANKS !

How many wires you got going in the back of the VIP connector?

There are 4 wires going into the large connector.
In the last post I had mistakenly written 6 wires. There are 2 black, one brown with green dashes and a white/red stripe wire. The two black wires join together into one terminal in the plug.
So, 4 wires in total but only 3 wires go into the back of the plug (as the two black wires connect.)
I hope this helps ?
Also, the car is an '84 Turbo Coupe with a 5 speed.

someone correct me if im wrong but,
you should be able to plug the large connector directly into your code reader
and run a ground from the battery to the leftover terminal.

Somebody just posted about this recently. On my stock 88, there are only three wires going to the VIP connector. The white/red strip is the wire that should be going to the single connector. The other three are properly in the VIP connector.

On my 84, the white with red stripe does not look like anybody has ever clipped it or fooled around with it. It looks like it's always been in the same place, kind of in the middle of the terminal, at the bottom.
What color is the single wire connector ?

What color wires do you have going to your large connector ?
Perhaps there are two different white with red stripe wires - one for the single connector and one for the large connector ?
