Code 14: PIP Circuit Failure

Pulled codes on the tbird today for the first time ever. No CEL, but i just bought a new reader and wanted to play around with it. Most of the codes i got im not too surprised about (EGR issues, no BCS, whatever) but one kinda threw me a little. I got a code 14 for a PIP circuit failure, but the car seems to run fine. It does have an occasional misfire at idle, but hardly noticable. I'm assuming that replacing the PIP or maybe even the whole distributor would fix that issue, but other than that how worried should i be about a complete failure? Was planning on a 300 mile trip next weekend. Also, any idea if the guts from a 2.9 TFI distributor would work? Ive got some old parts from my ranger i may want to use...

Do some more research. My understanding is many things could cause a code 14, like bad plug wires.

Thanks for the input, Pete. Plugs and wires are relatively new (less than 5k miles id bet) but i haven't actually looked them over well, so ill do that. I tried searching the forums but wasn't having much luck. The search function here leaves a little to be desired...

I agree with your comments on the search function... Relatively useless compared to the old search/site... Anyhow, I digress.

Clear the codes and see if they come back, that would tell you if it's an ongoing issue or a one time thing.

It is actually slightly better, once the secret hand shake is known. I was hoping for a bigger improvement but Oh well.
