Cobra R Wheels

Looking for a set of Cobra R Wheels for my 88 TC. 17 x 9

I've found several sources but the offsets differ.

+18 and +24.

What is the offset of the OEM wheels on the TC?

What offset would be the best with the Cobra R?

Any opinions or information appreciated.

To be able to fully evaluate the fit you need both backspace and offset.

I have seen the '87/'88 OEM 16 x 7 wheels listed with a backspace of 5.25 and offsets of 31 or 33mm.
5.25 and 31 results in a frontspace of 2.8"
5.25 and 33 results in a frontspace of 2.65"

Using your numbers and making an assumption that the bead thickness is the same on the outside and inside and is 1/2",

9" wide, 18mm offset, backspace~5.71", frontspace~4.29"
9" wide, 24mm offset, backspace~5.94", frontspace~4"

Both push the wheel out more than in, you might have an interference with the fender lips. This may be pushing them a little too far out.

Bob,

Thanks for your reply...

According to the Tire Rack the stock wheels are +25.

Having said that... unless there is an issue with clearance inboard... I would think that the +24 would be the way to go. Then I am very nearly the same as stock and can split the 2" extra, 1" outboard and 1" inboard. Reason I asked on here as several folks are running the Cobra Rs. Wondered what their offsets were.

Bob,

This has been a very confusing event for me.
Tire Rack says one thing, Discount Tire says another, etc. I've been told everything from +18 to +32 MM for stock rims. About the only thing every one agrees with is the range for optional fitment is from +18 to +24. I went with a set of OE Concept Cobra Rs in a +20 MM. They should be in and installed by Friday next week. So we will see what we see. Thanks for your note!

It would make gauging fitment much easier if you could get both backspace and offset for the rims. The two are related but not necessarily the same on wheels of the same style from different manufacturers, or between styles. 20mm offset may not result in the same backspace even though they are the same width. Optimal fitment can have a varying offset range depending on backspace.

Maybe you could give me a hint. I've tried finding where on the tire rack they list the OEM wheel offsets (and backspace?), but I can't. Would you let me know how you navigated to what Tire Rack believes is stock?

I called Tire Rack and they looked it up on their computer.
