Clutch Size on an 88 TC, 8.8in. or 9.25?

Recently I was replacing the Clutch on my car and I bought a standard replacement clutch and pressure plate only to find once it was going in, it was too small (8.8 inches). I made sure another 2.3 clutch wasn't ordered. The original clutch that came out of the was measured and showed about 9.25 inches. Rock Auto sells both sizes and a 9.25 inch clutch was ordered.

Is there a reason for this? I'm assuming since the car was going out of production they used different clutches in the cars instead of over stocking on the 8.8 inch clutches. Can anyone explain this?

9 1/4" for a TC. the smaller one is for non turbo applications.

however, either one will fit your flywheel.
