Clutch replacement - how many $$$

well it appears it is time to replace my clutch. Although it only slips occassionally and then only in 4th gear on a hard acceleration, it still appears this may be the only remedy (unless someone has some suggestions otherwise).

How much should I expect to pay to have my clutch replaced? Maybe not as much $$ as much as the number of hours of labor required (I think only the tranny needs to be dropped and not the engine pulled???).

Thanks

I got a clutch kit from NAPA for only 180$, it included clutch , pressure plate, throw out bearing, and a alinment tool. It just as good as stock though. One thing I did was the throw out bearing that came with the kit sucked so I wet to Ford and got a 30$ good one. As far as time and labor, its not to hard. Engin doesn't need anything done to it besides putting somthing under the oil pan when the tranny bracket is off.

Get the flywheel resurfaced or you will be doing it again shortly.

Also have the rear main seal checked - mine was leaking. It's easy to replace when the flywhell is off anyway.

i replaced mine right after i got the car because i couldn't stop dumping the clutch and burning up ricers at school. it cost me a little over three hundred. i did most of the work myself so the mechanic(friend of the family's)only charged me twenty buck on labor. do yourself a favor though and buy something more high performance. i really don't like the one that i put in from Auto Zone. it used to squeek and it still kinda jiggles under light pressure. spend the extra few dollars and do it right do it once. i'm already planning an upgrade because i don't like the feel when shifting at high rpm's. i never missed a shift before i replaced the clutch but now third is a real problem. i drove my friends TC and he has a Centerforce clutch we put in together and its ten times nicer.

I'm glad you got it ok. I had them send it out next day air for you to make sure it got there by Thursday. I'm glad you're pleased with it. Let me know how you like it once you really start romping on it.

I got a replacment from NAPA it was the cheapest I could find. I would only go performance if you plan on hypeing the car or hammering the clutch. Make sure you turn the flywheel it will make you clutch last much longer no mater what you do. My flywheel had never been turned and the clutch was only slightly worn but all ready slipped wasn't even a year old. Do it right or you will do it often!
