Clutch/Release bearing

My 87 TC has been down for months, and I am trying to get it running again. It is making a noise from the transmission/clutch area, and I think it is the release bearing. There is no noise when the trans is in netral. If I depress the clutch pedal and put the shifter in gear the noise starts, and will continue as long as the transmission is engaged. There is no noise when you move the clutch pedal with the trans in netral. Could this be the release bearing, pilot bearing, or the trans. It sounds like I will have to pull the tranimission regardless.
Thanks
B D
