Clutch relations

OK....I got bored today and took my tranny out, this rear main leak is getting out of hand.I got everything out, short of the bellhousing and clutch and flywheel. Now this big shiny sicker on my slave cylinder cover says I HAVE TO remove the rod from the clutch pedal before I remove the slave from the pivot arm.Is this really necesary(spelling?) or is that just a safety step so some idiot doesn't come push the clutch while it's disconnected and make a damn mess??If it is,can anyone tell me how to get the damn clip off the end of the clutch rod on the pedal arm??I'm almost positive that it's gonna break.

It's safety. I've done 5 and never removed the rod from the pedal.
