Clutch question.

The clutch on my '86 engages when the pedal is about an 1" off the floor. It also has to be fully depressed or the car won't go into gear. Pretty much have to slam it into gear. I can't find any adjustment underneath on the cable so I assume there is none. Am I in need of a new clutch?

My understanding of the clutch adjustment in pre 87 is to lift the pedal fully a few times. Beyond that someone else will have to chime in

well I know that the hydro systems on the 87-88 cars are self bleeding and do not need adjustments for the most part? As for 86 isnt that a cable setup if I remember correctly from my junk car. If there are no adjustments anywhere around where the pedal mounts or on the in or outside of where it goes through the firewall.

Other than that I'm thinking there could be a bad pressure plate or a bad cable or the TOB isnt lined up correctly in the Fork. Sorry I cant be of anymore help

i'm thinking if you can find an adjustment, like Pete said, you will have to loosen it and make sure the pedal is fully up then tighten it to where it feels comfortable, if not sounds like it may be time for a billit adjustable quandrant ;-)

The 86 has the "self-adjusting" quadrant and pawl set-like the bulk of the Fox Mustangs.

You can always swap in an aftermarket quadrant that has a bit more adjustment to it.

Sounds like either your cable is stretched, the quadrant needs to be adjusted, or the clutch is well worn.
