Several years ago, my 95 Taurus Vulcan winter beater developed a pan gasket leak. The leak wasnt too bad, and not wanting to spend the time dropping the pan and replacing the gasket, I blasted the leak area with nearly an entire can of brake cleaner and used the better part of an entire roll of paper towel to get it as clean and oil free as I could. I then slathered the area with RTV Ultra Black, and let it dry for 2 days. Been leak free for at least 3 or 4 years.

Yes I would avoid if at all possible dropping the pan. It can be a real can of worms, because while you’re in there it’s hard to resist the temptation to fuss with the oil pump and want to clean the strainer, etc.

The oil pan gasket isn’t like the valve cover. Depending on which one you get, it can be in several pieces, and not for the faint of heart. You could end up with even more leaks of you’re not really careful.

1987 Turbo Coupe w/T5OD, 8.8 axle, grey smoke; most options. Got it in 1991 with 41K miles: 3 turbos, 2 heater cores, 3 T5OD full rebuilds, 6 clutches, 1 head gasket, 2 Teves II ABS units, etc. later....

I found the leak and its not the oil.pan, is the oil turbo line, its leaking by the dipstick it was actually pouring out like crazy lol, idk if thats better than changing out the oil pan gasket.

May want to pick up a braided steel oil line to replace the OEM line. I think Stinger may sell them.
