clutch pedal stiffness?

My friend has a turbo talon and he bought an ACT 2600 clutch, it chatters at low speed and the pedal is insanely stiff, you cant even hold it down that long before your leg goes numb. Who has a stage 3 clutch and pressure plate,Whats its clamping force(if you know), and how stiff is the pedal?

The pedal feel is like stock. They sell it to hold 500hp on slicks. Star clutch info from S&R website.

The chattering your friend is experiencing should get better as the clutch gets worn in a bit. Just make sure he takes it easy for the first few hundred miles until it's properly broken in.

I agree with Glenn that the spec stage 3 clutch setup feels just as easy as stock.

"Just as easy as stock"??? Are you kidding? I've had 3 87-88 tbirds, and all of them had clutches that would give you shin splints if stuck in traffic for long. Very stiff pedal. Is this uncommon?

Nope, not at all. I'm not exactly a terribly strong guy, either (about 155lbs soaking wet at my gangly 6'1 height).

What brands of clutches were you running in your cars? Maybe the spec stage 3 pressure plate isn't rated at as high of a force as the centerforce plates, but it sure grips well enough for my taste.

2 of the TCs I had, had the stock clutches in them(as far as I know) with more than 150,000 miles on each of them. The other TC that I had, had a brand spanking new clutch from the dealer and the pedal was still extremely stiff. And I am not a weakling by any means. I guess I'm just lucky. [Image: biggrin.gif]

I've got a Centerforce I set up in one car and CF II in the other and I didn't notice any increase in stiffness with either.

I'll let you drive my car at Carlisle next year. You'll notice some stiffness then. [Image: wink.gif]
