Are you sure the engine side of the clutch plate faces the flywheel?

This is the first time I've replaced a clutch but that and I'm fiarly sure I had it in the right way. I have a crappy torque wrench, would over tightening the bolts on the clutch cause this problem? (22lbs)

Is it possible they took off too much material off the flywheel? I know others have had to shim it to make up for the difference. I have always replaced the flywheel so I have no experience with shims, maybe others will chime in.

^^^ +1 Flywheels are cheap. If too much is cut off the flywheel and it isnt shimmed to compensate, clutch wont fully disengage.

For the amount of time it took, I should have put in the new flywheel. Being dutch I'm cheap and I thought I could use it on another TC that had a flywheel in worse shape. I'll replace it when I open things up again. Thanks
