Clutch and pilot bearing suggestions

I am a ways off from needing the clutch yet, but thought it would be good to start lining things up. When my mechanic neighbor was over helping with my cancer problem, he noticed the end of the shaft looked a little worn. Picture below. He thought I would need to take some emery cloth to it and put a new bearing on it, and I should be good. The question is then, do I need to get this measured and figure out what clutch I am going to get, then get a bearing that would fit between them?

I am thinking of getting either the SPEC stage II or the Ram Stage II. It seems that there was no one in favor of the F1 Racing Stage II. From the descriptions it did sound like either of these came with a new pilot bearing.

Any suggestions on which clutch to get for a DD, or on the type of pilot bearing to get?

Thanks a lot!

My answer for a clutch isn't going to be popular on here but no one else has chimed in yet so.. Big Grin

I'm not sure what the mod is in your sig or how much hp gains you got from it but I assume your TC is basically stock. I would not hesitate to go to Auto Zone and pick up one of their lifetime warranty clutches. It comes with everything you need.

I have been running one of their clutches for about 5 years and 70,000 miles and I have abused the far out of it, hate to think how many times it has seen 3K rpm launches, with absolutely no issues whatsoever. It also has survived as my wife's first ever manual car.

But this is just my opinion. Big Grin

I`ve also been looking into clutches as I need to fix that 1st gear popout problem.
I have been looking into using a Ram Clutch.
They seem to have a great clutch package with a resonable price with several option for different power outputs.

My first thought was going to be the Advance/Autozone clutch, but then ran out of oil and got into a little moding. My sig doesn't reflect where I am going any more. I am getting the head bowl blended, and block bored .020. Also taking the T3 turbo from the 84 motor I am using. Was going to do a little porting myself on the intake, mot much, just smooth it out a little. Was considering putting bigger valves in, but wasn't sure if it is worth the $200 it would cost. So with the mods, I was thinking I am going to be over that 250 mark for the cheep clutches. Also though I may down the line do something with the exhaust...

I had not heard of a Tampa clutch before, I'll have to look into it.

Centerforce clutches seemed to come with a higher tag than SPEC or Ram. Didn't know if one could really tell the difference from those brands to make it worth the extra $$$.

The exhaust should be the first thing you do. It is the primary restriction. Get a header or port the E6 and improve the rest of the system, first.

The E6 I bought from a guy on TurboFord is mildly ported, and will keep an eye open for the rest of the system. I had seen one slitghtly used on TF, but sold before I could get a hold of him.

Thnaks for the help

I like my spec stage II clutch. Just need to break it in (easy driving) for about 500 - 1000 miles.

My .02 from my experienced. When I got my TC the guy put a advanced auto clutch in, which works fine and i'm still using it but the throw out/ clutch bearing that came with it was not smooth on the inside and it ate the sleeve of my bearing retainer out and i had to have one fabricated.

Just passing on my little bit of knowledge...
