I read recently that the sensor for the climate control is behind the intercooler! is that where it T's off to go to the heater core? When we worked on the heater core about a year ago the climate control flashes after it the reaches a certain temp, also it blows cold air as soon as the car is started instead of waiting till its ready to blow warm air.

The sensor behind the intercooler inline with the rubber coolant hose to the firewall is the cold engine lockout switch. When the climate control is set to Auto and heat, the system will not deliver air until the switch opens, which will happen once the engine's coolant warms up. If the switch isn't hooked-up, the wiring is bad (no continuity), or the switch fails open, cold air will be delivered when the controller is set to Auto and heat anytime. The black wire to the switch goes to ground, while the yellow/white goes to the controller.

However, i don't believe that the system checks that switch for faults and doesn't have a good way of doing so. i think you have another problem that is causing the lights to blink.

Might want to perform the test that is found here, to find out why the controller is finding a fault
