i recently moved from socal to b.c,i had to use one of those cheesy cartop carriers that didnt have a very much padding to protect the paint, after i removed the top there was some scuffing of the clearcoat on the roof.any suggestions on how to deal with the scuffs?the best way i can describe what they look like is a kinda chalky texture that wont wash off.

A Porter-Cable or other rotary buffer with a foam pad and some swirl remover, followed by some polish/sealant. I recommend the Tropi-Care stuff.

Michael is right (I'm a detailer too), and the reason I asked what is the color is that if you try to buff out the small spot by hand with an abrasive compound you might rub the clearcoat off altogether and leave a "clean" spot. It would definitely show the most on darker paint. Be careful with the buffer.

I'm taking the buffer to Layla soon Big Grin

There's not much paint left (19 years old, 178K miles) but the variable-speed PC and the variety of pads/compounds I have should let me rub it out "softly" and at least get another year or ten out of the paint.

The Meguiars paint cleaner and pure polish steps worked good for me by hand to get dog scratches, and someone's butt-print out of the clear coat on my car. The paint's only a year old though so I have plenty of clearcoat left.. Did it by hand, don't know how to use those buffers...

South Dakota police leaning on your car wtih their polyester pants writing a warning after letting their dog run it's nails around a couple times looking for drugs that weren't there with 5 day old paint. (yes I'm STILL complaining about it Big Grin )
