cleaning fuel injectors

Anyone ever try to clean their fuel injectors? I've had a sneaking suspicion I've had some troubles with mine. Put plugs in about 3 months ago and now it barely wants to run on all 4. Its always idled high and last night after work I decided to see if there was pressure on the fuel rail. To my disappointment there was none. Given the other symptoms I've come to the conclusion I have atleast 2 leaking injectors and I'm sure the other 2 have to be dirty. I've seen some rigs people have made that looks like it would do the job but was wondering if anyone here has done it, if so how well did it work? Also how hard is it to pull the fuel injectors?

Scott, have you run the fuel system diagnostics. There can be other causes for low/no fuel pressure besides leaking injectors
If you need that routine it's here: http://turbotbird.com/techinfo/Fuel_Syst...ostics.htm

I know there can be other causes, but for my situation I'm fairly certain that the injectors are the problem. After I changed the plugs when I got the car several months ago The car ran fine other than it idled about 1400 rpms. Nothing seemed to affect the idle and I didn't have too much time to troubleshoot it. So it's been driven like that since I've had it. After changing the plugs it slowly started having a little trouble starting, I figured it was just the cold because after it ran for a minute it was fine. Now it barely wants to run on all 4. Taking into consideration the way the plugs looked when I changed them last (2 badly fouled) and the fact that the fuel pressure bleeds off to nothing between getting to work and leaving work, I feel stuck injectors is the most probable cause. It would explain the high idle despite any adjustments that are made. Also would explain no residual pressure in the fuel rail after sitting, and would explain why 2 of the plugs were fouled so bad.

My experience with leaking injectors has been that if the car starts hard when warm (after sitting, say, an hour or 2 after being run last), and puts out a puff of black smoke after it does start, there is an injector or injectors leaking.

I would just have them cleaned and flow tested by a cleaning service. Several of us have used Cruzin Performance with good results. Cost isnt too bad ($12 to $15 per injector I seem to remember). Then you know for sure it was done right.

I just looked up cruzin performance and if I was closer to Michigan I'd just drop them off, but this is my daily driver and after you take shipping into account plus the turn around time, it would be better for me to just replace the injectors if it came down to it. Besides im the type that likes to do everything myself.

Ok so i just finished plugs rotor cap/button, and cleaning the injectors. They were dirty but unfortunately wasn't the cause of my fuel pressure bleeding off after you turn off the engine. For now its running great, no missing or anything like that. So I guess I'll be going through the fuel system diagnosis later this week when I can pick up a few things.

That's what I'm starting to think. The injectors were dirty but not leaking like I thought. Other than a high idle, it runs too good to be the fpr, or clogged filter. Only thing that seems to fit would be the pump. I guess time to go to a 255.

Haven't had time to find out why the fuel pressure bleeds off, but I did get a pleasant surprise just now. I am now getting almost 29 mpg, almost a 5 mpg gain after new plugs, distributor cap, rotor button, and cleaning the injectors.
