I picked up a new 87 tc the other day - she has the basic rolling idle problem. Several people here suggested that I start by cleaning the IAC - si I removed the two bolts holding it on then unplugged the wires from that. When the whole iac was in my hand - I removed the 2 screw holding the controller end - I held the piston piece over a bucket and sprayed it many times with carb cleaner - black gook started to come out of it so I sprayed into both holes over and over again until I removed all of the deposits inside thie device. I also sprayed the control end of this unit - I let it dry and re-assembled it all and put it back on the car. I'll let you know how it goes in tomorrow.

My guess is that it might not fix the problem. A working IAC is what makes the idle go up and down by opening and closing. If it is clogged it cannot do that.

Look into your TPS setting. A bad setting makes the computer try to control the idle using the IAC to cycle the up and down idle.

Its ALWAYS a good idea to clean it though.

Seems like cleaning out my IAC fixed my rolling idle problem - I don't know how that this works - but it was really dirty inside... She now idles aroung 900 really smooth.
