Cherry Bomb muffler?

Has anybody ever run a Cherry Bomb glasspack muffler on their car?

I'm thinking about getting one to put on my bird. My main fear is how it would sound.

It's a straight through, so it should really help the turbo spool, but I don't at all want this thing to sound like a ricer.

Or am I being a bit paranoid? Can the "big" 2.3 ever sound like one of those weedwhacker 1.6 ricers?

Right now my muffler's acting like a straight through (Even though it's not supposed to. The muffle has so many holes it might as well not be there) and it doesn't sound too bad at all.

I'm just really really liking the $20 price tag on that muffler. (As I have said many times, I'm all about being a cheapskate.) And by the time the muffler starts to die, I'll likely have enough to spend on a full stinger exhaust.

Our cars don't sound ricey - they sound "tractory." If you go with absolutely minimal exhaust (ie - straight through muffler, turndown), the exhaust tends to be a bit more raspy. However, if you go with tailpipes that tends to mellow out the sound. I personally like how my 3" turndown sounds, not ricey at all

lol...I'd say not even "tractory"....you hear one of these strait dumped and you swear it IS a tractor...at least until you wind it up a little..especially and N/A motor...a turbo might soften that up a little....

what about no mufflers at all, just strait out the back? im thinking of trying it myself.anyone tried that??

I have had a cherry bomb on one of my 83 a few years ago with nothing after that. It did not sound bad throug a cat and small exhaust. I also currently am running no mufflers on my 88, just straight pipes out the back (IHI 3" dp, 2.5" tails), and I like the sound! I personally like the single 3" w/ ATR pitbull muffler thats currently on my 83. I love the sound of it no matter the RPM! HTH

I used a $25 Thrush Super Turbo muffler for awhile until I could put a complete 2.5 inch setup on my car. Was dumped at the axle and VERY deep tone.

My buddy had a cherry bomb on his merkur and i thought it sounded terrible.

I have also run no mufflers on mine. Just had the stock exhaust through the cat and i thought it had a nice burble to it. It also wasn't that loud like that either.

So I'm guessing the primary recommendation is to just slap a straight pipe on there? Give a better sound, but not too loud?

It really depends on the sound you want, and how loud you want it to be. Try to find someone in your area with aftermarket exhaust and listen to it. Straight-through/axle dump tends to be loud and tractory as said before, and tailpipes are more mellow. The car will never sound like a V8.

I like my exhaust, doesn't sound like anything else out on the road. Yes, it is loud. I set off car alarms on decel. Exhaust sound/tone is a very personal thing, decide how you want it to sound and go from there. Also, turndowns tend to be the easiest/cheapest route to go for exhaust.

On my old 85 TC that I used to drive, I had a Cherry Bomb on there and I actually liked the sound note that it gave. I just was not crazy over the 2" pipe from the back of the bomb to the back of the car.

I have flowies on my TC now and I like the sound, but I know that they are way too restrictive, so this is why I have been looking into 3" from the down pipe to the rear bumper. I just like the deep soft burble that some of the other guys have on their cars.
