Checking TPS

I was looking at the tech article on checking the TPS voltage at idle. I have what is probably a dumb question, but I know just enough about electronics to be dangerous. When you are checking the output voltage, do you undo the connector and check the terminals coming from the TPS, or do you leave the harness connected and stick a probe in the appropriate wire to get the voltage. OK go ahead and laugh.

No laughing, but probe it man. I used my wifes straight pins, worked great. Also remember to use the black wire from the tps for a ground, don't use the chassis of the car.
