Check engine light

I'm trying to diagnose a stumble that occurs throughout the RPM range in my 88 TC. The car has just been tuned, has a new fuel pump, new adjustable pressure regulator (set to 43), and the carbon has been blasted out of the EGR. KOEO produces a pass. KOER will not produce codes before the car dies at normal operating temp. The stumble does not occur when the car is cold, only at normal operating temp. My check engine light does not come on when the ignition is turned on. How do I diagnose the check engine light? Any suggestions on the stumble.

I would turn the idle up a little bit to see if you can get it through the KOER part of the test so you can get any codes. Also, did you use the Motorcraft stock replacement plug wires? If I had to guess I would say it's the ECT (engine coolant temp sensor) located between #s 2 and 3 injectors on the lower intake. I'd rather confirm that with a code, it's a PITA to change. Try cleaning the connector to it and checking the wiring.

Thanks Pete. I used the Ford wires. The car runs magnificiently when it's cold. I'll try cleaning the connector.

I cleaned lots of connectors Friday night. Every sensor I could find got a good scrubbing with qtips and solvent, then a spray with WD-40. The car works perfectly. We made a trip from Boulder, CO to Albuquerque, NM and back this weekend in the TC. I'm more impressed than I ever thought I would be. Eighty MPH over Raton Pass in 5th with only the boost gage moving, outstanding comfort, and over 25 MPG. TC's rule.
