Cheap/easy exhaust advice

My original exhaust is disintegrating and needs to go. I still have stock exhaust and am not really worried about maximum performance, and want to minimize noise and cost. That being said, an upgrade would always be welcome.
I have considered the Stinger 3" setup and chambered 3" muffler but it's pricey and I'd have to get it professionally installed.

Is it possible to delete the cat and run new 2" pipe to a new 2" muffler without doing any welding if i use clamps? I could probably do this for about $100 in parts but I haven't done exhaust work before.

I can see by yur signature yu have some nice mods on yur car..
and that performance is one of your criteria.

So... you need AT LEAST 2.5" !!
Going from your stock exhaust to 2.5" will WAKE UP the car !!
You will pick up at least 0.5 sec 0-60..

Cheapest:
I see yur location is 'rural' NE ..
a muffler shop should be able to bend you 2.5" from the downpipe back (removing cat) with a generic muffler of your choice for ~$200
maybe less if you're tight with a shop..

AND yu never get under the car.
PRICELESS ! lol I hate undercar work

Next cheapest:
if the max yur local shop can do is 2.5",
I'd get the stinger 3" DP (good deal for 100$) then a 3" muff,
then a flowmaster 3" -> 2.5 reducer cone to transition before the axle;
maybe see if stinger will sell you one of the 2.5" 'dual' tailpipes.
the install cost should be almost 1/2 if the shop doesnt have to bend the tailpipe

Next cheapest:
if yu can find a shop that can do 3" bending,
I would buy the stinger downpipe ,
then have yur shop hang the 3" muff of yur choice, and bend up a 3" tailpipe

Best: full mandrel bent 3" system

Yes- if money is very tight and you have to do something now, you could clamp together some 2" stuff, but it probably wont be much fun, might not stay together long-term, and wont perform nearly as well as the options already offered.

Hope whatever path you choose works out! Smile

Thanks for the ideas!

The system is holding up for now but eventually I'm going to lose the pipe to the muffler, then it's over LOL

Guess I better save up. On the bright side the TC isn't my DD, but that's also what prevents me from spending more on it

I just ordered a 3"stinger downpipe= $100
8' of 3" exhaust tubing from summit= $34
And one straight through summit muffler= $40
I will cut some pie cuts for the bends and weld it up, 3" exhaust for under $200, i will run a turn down for now and maybe buy another section of tubing later to make a tailpipe.

I decided to go with Stinger dp and intermediate pipes to a flowmaster 40 and 3" turn down. Skipping the tail pipe, haven't had one for 10 years why add one now ...

Welp, broke a stud on my T3 elbow today :-(

Pulling the whole turbo to extract the stud... hopefully... I am worried I won't be able to get the nuts off the exhaust manifold though... we shall see.

Talk about a force multiplier. The exhaust upgrade project that keeps on giving!

After failure with vice grips and propane, took the whole T3 to a welding shop and they extracted the stud for me, but now the threads in the elbow have a lot of slop so I might just do a through bolt. Found the OE replacement studs in the Dorman 03144 kit, supposedly they are different on either end of the stud but 7/16 14 seem to thread on/off both so I will probably just go with that. The Dorman nuts look like grade 8, so are the ones in the NAPA kits, so that seems like a safe bet.

Here it is. Happy with the results, but I may try and tuck it more by rotating upwards.
