? Carpet Removal ?

I'm trying to take out my carpet but I'm not sure how to pull it out from under the radio panel area. Can someone enlighten me ?

O.K,I finally got the carpet out. There may be a more simple way but I don't have that information as yet.
This is how I done it mine.: Since my car is a 87 TC my radio console panel reaches to the floor board. Behind the System Sentry panel are these little brackets on both left and right which are held in place with little star head screws. They seem to be stabilizers that simply keep the panel from shifting if hit by the passengers. I really don't know there purpose to be honest. Anyway, I removed those and found the top right is hardest and you have to loosen the climate control panel to access it. Once those are out I sat down in the back seat and slowly wiggled the carpet free while occasionally prying the panel up then back in its natural position with a large flat head screw driver. Since its such a tight fit be careful and take your time. I kept singing that old song by the Pointer Sisters-slow hand (HaHa). Here the link for you young bucks:

Once I got the carpet pulled back I noticed a wiring harness inserted through a hole at the very back of the carpet in that area. I can't tell you how to unplug it because I didn't take the time to look, its now dark outside. It seems to be the reverse light switch because its routed through the floor board just beside the drivers right foot/gas pedal/on the floor board hump. I just cut the carpet there to save some time. Its only about 2-3 inches of material and will never be noticed when the carpet is re-installed. So there you have it. Good luck!

Oh one more thing. I found moisture and rust under my carpet so be sure that your hood latch cable is not leaking or else you'll regret it.

If you want to save a bunch of weight, order carpet from ACC custom carpets and get rid of the factory stuff. When I pulled the factory carpet out of mine, it had to easily weigh 40+ lbs. The ACC carpet (with just the regular backing, not the mass backing) weighed maybe 10 pounds total. Fit is pretty good if you measure twice and cut once.
It will also slide under the center stack much easier since it isn't as thick. I went with black carpet as I was sick of the porno red everywhere. lol!

Where is everyone getting carpet from? I have noticed the ones on Rockauto and I am tempted. I'm also doubtful of fit and finish... Don't want to spend $200 on POS hunk of carpet for the old TC.

I think the thicker and heavier carpet would be a good thing, for insulating the cabin form road noise and such...

I got my replacement from stockinteriors.com after a firewall water leak trashed my original. I got 1001-Black Ultra-Plush Pile. Not quite the same as factory, but it's not bad either. You can order samples for free (last I checked), if you want to compare. I also ordered the floor mats with the Tbird emblem embroidered. They shed like a dog in spring for the first few weeks. Fitment was as boosted chicken described, fits decent if you don't rush it.

Now that I think about it, I believe it came in a ACC carpet box. So, I guess it's 6 one way half-dozen the other. I didn't order mass-back for this carpet, but I did for my 94's replacement (still not installed).

Agreed, I pulled all the insulation from the back of my factory carpet. I plan on power washing the old red carpet so I think its gonna be ok. Keep me in mind when ditching old red interior ( door panels to be exact )
It seems the fire wall water leak is getting to use all. I'll have to do a search on that later. I hope there is good write up on it or I'll be looking for a car cover soon.
