car wont start.

I have an 88TC and the car will crank, but it will not run. I am getting spark at the plugs, and have a full tank of gas. I ran a koeo test and came up with code 67 which indicated a Neutral drive switch or ac input high (whatever that means) problem. I can get the car to start if I roll it about a foot in either direction. Any suggestions?

thanks.

When you turn the key to RUN, do you hear the fuel pump run its 2 sec prime cycle? If the pump runs, do you have high enough fuel pressure? This must be checked with a gauge, as just pressing on the schraeder valve to see if fuel squirts out doesnt tell you enough (and is dangerous). If the pump doesnt run, either the pump is bad, inertia switch tripped, FP relay bad, or a harness problem.

Why would moving the car enable it to start? or was that coincidental. It has happened that way twice already. the pump runs, but I don't know the pressure. I will get that checked out since I don't have a guage to measure the fuel pressure. could there be sediment in the tank blocking operation of the fuel pump?

I sent you some schematics on the starting circuit.
It might be a sediment problem but that is just one possibility. Run the fuel system diagnostics to check out the fuel system.

Thank you,Thank you so very much! Are these attachments from the ford shop manuals? If so, then I am going to have to get a copy of them. the diagrams are a mile better than what Haynes or Chilton offer in their books.

Yes, those are from the 1988 EVTM (Electrical/Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) - one of the set of 88 Ford manuals. Most of the orginal manuals are obsolete but you can check with Helm, the distributors of the orginal manuals to see what they might have. See:

For reprints of the original manuals see:

Is there any difference between the 1987 EVTM and the 1988 EVTM?

If it helps any, the transmission is an automatic. the car cranks but will not start, either in Park or neutral. It will not even crank if the transmission is in any of the drive gears. I rolled the car back a few feet and it started up just fine (coincidental?). It does idle kinda low sometimes around 800-900 rpm instead of 1000 rpm, mostly it idles @1000rpm. I bought a code reader today so I will do KOEO and KOER tests later tonight. thanks for any help or suggestions.

I'm not sure what you mean by "I rolled the car back a few feet and it started up just fine".

Does rolling it a foot in either direction change the elevation or angle of the gas tank? Could it simply be out of gas?

It either starts or it doesn't? Or does it not start when only within this one foot radius?

Not cranking in gear is normal for the automatic.

On two occasions since I have owned the car, it would not start after I had parked it. the car would crank over, but not run. I have determined that I am getting spark, but I am not so sure about fuel. The last time this has happened, I moved the car a few feet to some shade so I could work out of the sun and tried again to start the car. After I had moved the car, it started as if nothing was ever wrong. This had only happened twice. The first time was at an airport parking lot and I had the car towed, the last time it happened was at a wal-mart parking lot. On both instances the car was moved and after moving, the car started.
