My 88 turbocoupe smokes (blue)cant figre it out.I just put on the turbo on and it only will do it when you rev it up,it stops when you hold the rpms up though.turbo is in good shape,no shaft play,I took out the plugs and they are not oily they are great.there is no oil in the intercooler or TB.I know the motor itself uses no oil.Could my drain tube be plugged (turbo)?Ive been restoring her for 5 years so its been a while since shes seen the road,so I dont know if it smokes while driving it,hope not.If anyone has any ideas let me know, and everyone has been a HUGE help, thanks again!

One question, have you ever had any head work done ? Most.... or all of the cars if they have never had valve seals replaced, by this point they are pretty much hard as a rock.
From what I can recall the drain tube is a fairly large bore hose, it would really have to be cruddy to clog. In any case the only real pathway to the engine from the turbo would be via the intake, where you already seem to have ruled out by not seeing any oil.

I think oil can also leak into the exhaust(turbine) side and get burned after the turbo. Not sure how frequent this happens.

However for a car that sat for 5 years, I go with Hurff on the valve seals as a very possible unless you replaced them

I got an 86 SVO with 28K actual miles on it that has needed new valve seals for a few years. Mileage means almost nothing. It's how dried out they are.

yes, oil can leak into the turbine housing, i found that out as my ihi was on its way out. it made the typical siren noises and boost response was definately slower. but what im getting at was oil definately leaked into the downpipe before the shaft ended up in two pieces and i took the turbine wheel out of my hollow cat. oops

what is it, where does it go? oh well, cant be that important.
