Welcome to NATO!

Sounds like the latch was down before the door was closed, My TC does the same thing. You can probably wiggle the door open, try pulling up slightly when doing the wiggling. Once its open you will probably find the latch pushed up into the mechanism. You can use a screwdriver to push it back down/out, try holding the door handle in the open position while using the screwdriver on the latch.

Pretty sure this happend to me a long time ago in my Monte Carlo. I think zip is right. Even though the door feels like it's latched, I think the striker is just wedged in the latch mechanism. Try pulling the door open with some force and it should come open. And also like zip said, I had to lift up on the door handle while I used a screwdriver move the latch back where it was supposed to be. And welcome to NATO.

the latch mechanism is worn and bound up. i usually get inside the car, hold the release lever open and use my shoulder to force the door open. you can "reset" it with a screwdriver or a pick and lube it up real good and it may last a while longer before it binds up again but the only permanent fix is to replace the latching mechanism in the door. finding a good used replacement can be difficult. i don't think new ones are available. repeatedly slamming the door is the cause although i think normal wear and tear will also do it over time.

they are a real bugger to replace too. you have to be a contortionist and also be able to see around corners...
