Can someone let me know where this Alt wire goes?

So I went to pull my alternator off the other week and being lazy and tugging on the 3 wire connector into the regulator of the Alt instead of grabbing something to help pry it up, the black (assuming ground) wire from the 3 wire connector pulled out of the harness & I for the life of me tried opening up the harness and removing all the loom and tape and cannot find any traces of where this damn black wire went to and feeling really stupid...

hope someone can make me look like an idiot and tell me where this darn thing goes? Smile

I had to go back and look, but I was remembering that the black wire just terminated in the harness on an 88. Check the wiring section in this article:

the only reason i havent upgraded to a newer style alternator is because i thought i read somewhere that they cause more electronic noise that the Megasquirt standalone doesnt like, not sure if its because they impose more AC ripple that the computer doesnt like or why but I'd need to look into it again

^^^ All alternators are electrically the same. They are all 3 phase AC generators and the output is full wave rectified by 6 diodes. If operating correctly (no leaky / blown diodes, burned out phases, damaged regulator)no alternator will be any noisier than any other alternator.

Modern car alts are regulated by the PCM to keep system voltage a little more stable than the "old" internally regulated alts we use.

A 75 A alt on a TC with all the electrical accessories it has is a joke. A 130A alt will keep system voltage MORE stable than the anemic stock 75A alt.
