hello
i realize many people on here have the later turbo coupes but i thought maybe someone might be able to help me with my non-intercooled 86 turbo cougar xr7. there was a rare upgrade for similar cars (in 85 i think? spearco intercooler kit i believe) i haven't seen any intercooler kits for mine but i was told with a bit of fab work and ingenuity i could pretty much do the same thing (raise the boost up to 18-22psi, another hundred horsepower or so.)
unfortunately i know next to nothing about how to do this without the kit itself. so if anyone can give me any info whatsoever i'd be grateful.
also, i've been having electrical problems lately. theres a short somewhere (at least thats what i've narrowed it down too) thats draining my battery (which in turn is causing tons of other problems, not to mention that unattaching my battery every time i park is a huge pain in the neck)its begining to cost quite a bit of money (and taking up a lot of time) i've been tracing wiring and pulling fuses but i can't locate where the drain is. any help with that would be very useful. thanks.

I sent you a diagram of the Ford unit you mentioned. I have never done one so I can't tell you about that. There are others here that have them

Short: Disconnect batt neg terminal and hook a small test light between batt neg and neg cable. Excessive draw will light up the light. Start pulling fuses until the light goes out. That will narrow down the circuit with the draw. If pulling all fuses doesnt find the circuit, pull the output lead off the alternator and see if the drain goes away. Diodes in the alt can short causing power drain. If that isnt it, disconnect the voltage regulator, as it may be keeping the field coil energized.
Hood, trunk, glove box lights that stay on all the time will also drain a batt pretty quick.

Welcome to another fellow owner from WI!
You'll get alot of good answers here...
For the intercooler setup you mentioned, sometimes they show up on eBay. Search under turbo coupe and turbocoupe.

hey
thanks for the diagram pete, i think that'll help. i'm keeping my eyes open on ebay for anything too. do you suppose the 85 kits (or any other similar one) can be used on mine? with some changes to it i dont see why not, but then again, i'm not sure
also, jeff, thanks for the suggestions. i already pulled all the fuses and couldnt find anything and was lost from there, so its a lot of help.
hello to my fellow wisconsinites, haha. there don't seem to be too many people from around here on the site. oh well...

I've seen 5 87-88 TC's in and around the Appleton area. Just located a white 88 parked back in a driveway in Neenah. Looks like it hasn't move in quite while.
