buying a turbo

The guy I bought my 87 from, allaboutcars101, has a garret T3 T60/.84 a/r that I'm probably gonna buy from him this weekend. Anybody had any experience with a turbo like this? I can't find any information online about it. Is it the same thing as my factory T3 off my 85? Bigger? Better? My main reason for getting this is to be able to use the top mount ic, without having to use the lil ihi.

Opinions? Input? Anything will be helpful. Thanks!!!

If it is truly a .84 (.82?) AR on the compressor side, it isn't going to make boost/ power until HIGH in the rpm range. Is that what you want for the car?

How high is HIGH? Like 3500rpm? And would it be completely sspooled up at high rpm, or START spooling?

It probably wont start to build much, if any boost until 3000 RPM range on a stock or nearly stock motor. Will really start to perform just about the RPM that the stock cam starts give up. Horrible cooice for a DD. Good choice for a drag car with a ton of engine mods.

If I remember correctly, he didnt even know what kind of turbo it was, and couldnt find any info on it either. IMHO, its too big unless you have some major head work and breather mods. Thats just my .02. One of the best upgrades you can do is swap a t3 from the earlier motors in there. They work well with bolt on and stock setups. I just did mine, and I cant be happier.

I remember somebody that had a .82 T3 saying it didn't start boosting until around 4K and wasn't going good until 4500. That was years ago and I don't remember his mods.
