Hey guys, my car has always smoked a little when you cranked it...even brand spankin new...but it only used to do it on the crank up...well now that the car is 18 years old, it burns oil out the tail pipe REAL bad when you crank it, and when you are sitting at a stoplight and take off...it really smokes!!! lol, anyway what do i need to do to fix my BIRD?? i want it to stop smoking. also, i have noticed once in a while...it will smoke from underneath the hood as well...sometimes it does both...sometimes it does both, sometimes it doesnt do either...all in all, i want it to stop smoking. what could this be...and if it is a number of things it COULD be...how do i check. just a reminder..my car has 96,000 original miles on the engine. everthing in the engine is as it was from factory. let me know, and thank you for all your help.

I would check the PCV valve first but since it does this on startup and when first accelerating I'm going to guess it could be valve seals, or valve guides or both. Not unusual.

Last year my buddy bought a 87 TC from a lady for $400 with the same symptoms. It turned out to be a bad turbo. Pull the snout of the turbo and see if it has back and forth play and check to see if the compressor wheel has bent fins. It cost him $75 bucks for the turbo at the jy and he had a new car.
