Breather Tube to Air Intake

Does anyone know why there is a tube running from the breather on the valve cover to the Turbo inlet? After having everything apart the past few weeks, I noticed that there is a lot of oil throughout the air intake system (inlet to turbo, upper/lower intakes, IC piping, etc). It appears to be coming from this tube.

Next question is, would it be bad if I blocked this tube off to keep oil out of the intake?

It is there for 1) emissions: oil vapor returns to the intake to be burned and 2) provide some engine breathing in addition to the PCV valve. It is metered air so it *should* remain in the intake tract.

Now when I changed my turbo to an SC50 it did not have a place for this. Leaving it out of the intake loop resulted in a more erratic idle than with it, and it was now spewing oil vapors etc under the hood. So I got a bright idea to put another check valve on it, with a filter to stop the oil (cheap carb see through fuel filter) and that caused alot of pressure in my engine to the point I blew the valve cover gasket going over the continental divide eastbound through Montana. Since then I've fab'd a place for a hose to be put in the intake (after air meter of course) and all has been well for over a year.

FWIW a little oil in the intake as you see is normal. Yes it's alot if you haven't opened it in years. The breather canister on the valve cover is just an oil separator. I got alot better result when I cleaned it out really well with carb cleaner.

Remember, under boost your pcv is closed, and the only other place for the crankcase to breath is that one you are concerned about.

I have the K&N breather kit. No problems. Forced4.com has them. Called a valve cover evacuation kit.
White '88 auto mostly stock, Black '88 5 speed nowhere near stock

If your talking about the hard line to the front of the turbo that's the pcv line. Mine came off and I freaked out at the time thinking it was the oil feed. R&R the pcv valve.

a little oil in front of the turbo like in the intake tube is normal if there was a lot then i would start saving for a new turbo.

oil in front of the turbo cannot be the turbo seals.

Agreed 110% metered air needs to stay in the system my car idles 100% better after i put it back into the inlet.

Garrett scroll down Forced4 2.3 products it's about half way, it's a hose with a K&N breather cap. $39 bucks. You could make it.
