ok, lately every time i step on the brakes i hear a grinding sound, it actually sounds like an airliner flying overhead. the car also pulls to the right when braking, the pads and rotors are all new....could one of the calipers be frozen up, and how would i check something like that?

when I had a caliper freeze up on me, the drag on the wheel was noticeable (it felt like I was riding the brakes). Of course, this was a front caliper so it is more noticeable.

After a drive, the rim was burning hot to the touch.

The first time I did a brake job in the back (drums, not discs) I didn't hook up the emergency brake cable well enough and it came loose, dragging against the shoe. This was a grinding sound, but I don't know how the e-brake cable is set up on the 87/88 discs ... something to check anyway.

I think if your caliper is frozen shut (ie: braking all the time), it would generate enough heat for you to notice. The affected caliper on mine got hot enough to burn my hand when I touched the rim.

How new are the pads? Sometimes they make some funny noises when new. You might try removing the pads and gently sanding them with some coarse sandpaper, just enough to rough up the surface.

About the pulling to one side, it's probably a slider pin sticking. Try STOMPING on the brakes, that usually frees it up. If not, or if it starts pulling again soon afterwards, pull them out of the calipers and clean/grease them. If that doesn't help, you might have a clogged brake hose.
