Ok, so I drove this car home the other day and the brakes felt fine until i was around the corner from home. The pedal was real hard and it felt like there was no stopping. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks

Did the brake light turn on? Any leaks or air in the system?

no brake light did not turn on, and what air system are you referring to? like the vacuum system? there are none that i am aware of, its weird because on a 20 mile trip, they didnt start acting up until the end. and since shutting the car down and firing it back up, they seem to work fine again.

Sounds like your accumulator lost pressure giving you a hard pedal. It is part of the ABS Master cylinder and is on the driver side next to the fender attached to the master cylinder.

I wasn't referring to an air system or vacuum. I was asking if you had any air IN your system meaning brake system. Air bubbles can make strange things happen depending on where they are.

yeah i understand what you mean, it has been my experience to get a squishy feeling when there is actually air in the fluid system. i appreciate all the helpful tips, i hope to get this all taken care of real soon. i will keep things updated as i go.

i do recall seeing the accumulator tucked in there now. i am not familiar with this type of set up. i will be digging into it this week more, is there a good way to check these or is it something visual or just change it and see what happens?

thanks again.

there is a relay that turns the power on the accumulator pump. Mine was corroded and would work fine sometimes and other times would stop working and Id get the hard pedal you described. I replaced the $10 relay and never had a problem again.. its called the antiskid relay and is located under the hood near the accumulator.. good luck
