Just discovered that my brake lights are not working. If I tap on my brakes they work. If I actually press on them they go off? I just discovered it as I was trying to fix many other issues. Since this is dangerous it is now on the top of my list.

Any Ideas? I did a search which resulted on nothing.

The brake light switch is located underneath the dash on the pedal, it will have two wires going to it. Fords brake switch failures are a common issue. I would also inspect the pigtail that plugs into the switch for any loose connectors, burnt wires, etc..

I have found that more often than the switch failing, the wires to the switch break. They flex every time the petal is pressed. Sometimes the wires break inside the insulation and the break is hard to spot without careful inspection.

The wires were broken. Thanks for the help.

I am too big to both see in that area and reach it. So on top of the connector getting destroyed in the process of fixing the wiring I also had to replace some fuses.

Thanks again.
