Inside the engine compartment, right between the air filter (origanal metal box) and the passenger side strut actuator, is a large metal box with what looks like a large computer hook up going to it. What is this? whats its purpose? and why on the pictures ive seen on the board (Dans car on home page)have i seen it missing, besides the small box thats attached to it.

I believe the "box" to which you are referring is the infamous IRCM.
Independent Relay Control Module

As to the discrepancies in location on various vehicles, I cannot begin to speculate.

I sincerely hope this has been marginally helpful.

They're not missing, just re-located, usually to the fender in the same area.Natmac is correct,it is the IRCM on the side nearest the radiator with wire harness going into it.I t contains the relays for the fuel pump,fans,A/C and I forget what else.On the rear is the BAP (barrometeric absolute pressure) sensor, serves the same function as a MAP sensor on a mass-air car.If you look close enough on all the cars, you will find both,as the car will not run without either one.

Too much fun, what's that mean? That's like too much boost, there's no such thing.

Is this a replacable part? If so where could i find one? and how much and im looking.

The reason i ask is because the one i have on there now looks like its had a patriot missle hit it, all the paint fell off and is dented.

You are in luck, kind of.... The IRCM is not TC specific, it was also used on several years (roughly 87 to 95) of Taurus / Sable, and a few other Ford models from the late 80s to mid 90s, so they are still available, and many dealers should have them in stock. The bad news: Expect to pay about $120 from the dealer for a new one. As far as I know, they are only available from Ford, and not from NAPA, etc.

Could always find one in better shape at the JY, and if you want it to look like new, sand it, prime and paint it.

LMAO!!

Even if the old one is dented, you could remove the sheet metal cover by drilling out 2 rivits (at opposite corners of the screws that attach it to the bracket), knock the dents out, bondo it, whatever, paint it, and pop rivit the cover back on.
