Block preparations

I had a post a couple weeks ago about pistons. The part number on the pistons crossed to a federal mogul piston for a 2.3L carbureted turbo. The block numbers cross to an 86 turbo. While neither of these give me the confidence on an 88 block with EFI pistons from TRW but, I think they will work for the power level I indented to get out of the engine (around 250 total). Like I typed before it looks like the engine has just been rebuilt but I think I need to drop the oil pan and pull the pistons and main caps to mic the journals and bearing. Run a tap down all the head bolt holes…
After that is done what else can I do to a short block to increase breathing, oil flow, improve cooling etc? Is it worth polishing the piston top to remove any sharp edges? Grind the cylinder walls near the top to expose more of the valves? Get the block o-ringed?
After looking at the oil return line (along with all the post about getting them off the turbo) I think I will try to get an AN setup.
None of this is a priority because my engine is running fine, but I want to get this engine prep’d incase I miss a gear and bad noises start coming from under the hood.

Thanks

If I remember right you said it had a 0.040 overbore. That is the max recommended for a turbo engine and if you had read the thread at TF on thin walls.. well.... anyway. I don't think you want to take any more metal out of the cylinder walls for any reason. Unshroud the valves in the cylinder head combustion chamber, not the cylinder walls. The stock oil pump is fine if it's in good shape.
At the 250 HP level, O ringing is a waste of time and money.
