surprised there isn't more action on this topic, people seem pretty excitable over the ZDDP issue on here...

I fly a piston engine plane for a living and during the summer we use Aeroshell W 100 Plus, and as the temperature gets colder, we switch to Aeroshell W 80 Plus, then (now) Aeroshell W 65. Our maintenance department said they use the Plus versions because "it has an anti-wear additive for the cam." The 65 doesn't come in a plus therefore it doesn't have the additive (confirmed on Shell's website). I don't know how they're adding it because they said the separate additive is not available anymore. To be fair, the engine's manufacturer says that the additive is required, so there's no picking and choosing.

Good morning gentlemen. Well if i am not mistaken all ZINC will be removed from all oils in the future. The EPA is a strange bunch. they do not need an act of congress to ruin ones day. When i was in business the EPA used to play havoc with us from time to time. especially with AC. They were RUTHLESS. And inspectors were always popping in. Well have a good afternoon gentlemen. If you want some real info on ZDDP and flat tappet cams here's 22 pages from another forum. The thread starter "SWHEATON" used his own money and tested several different brands of oil and additives using an independent lab.

i'm old school......if 1 lobe wore down..the valve adjustment was done in correctly...if it was because the oil did not have this or that all the lobes would have worn down the same....back in the day ... general motors 305 ate cam shafts all the time.....due to soft cams...i guess the hardning was done in correctly ????

So you're saying one or two rockers can suddenly go out of adjustment and wear down the lobes? How could a couple of rocker arms get tighter?
