Black Molding Removal?

I've been thinking about this for awhile, mostly because the molding drives me insane.

Is it possible to remove the black molding around the outside of the car? What's underneath it? Does it really need to be there?
I think the car would look so much sexier without it..

I also want to remove the trim before I paint it, but you cant take off thr bumper trim,so I'm going to leave the trim on the fenders to have the cornering lights but take the rubbery stuff off the doors and paint the rest of the trim the same color as the car.

Why can't you remove the bumper molding?

The bumper cover is one piece. There isn't any molding per se.

You will still need the fender moulding even if your car does not have cornering lights.

Now that you know the bumper moulding does not come off and you go out a picture it you will know why.

I THINK what Lew is trying to say is that the front / rear fender moldings are held on with 4 plastic studs and "speed nuts" per molding, so if you remove them, you will have 16 (total) BIG holes showing!

yup jeff is right, my car is goin to paint hell once it gets runnin again, so i got her kinda stripped, and i got no side trim ( i like it with no side trim) and i have no rear quarter trim or front trim, and there are BIG holes where they went in.. and it looks dumb that way, i just took off the quarter and front fender trim cuz its easier to paint the car that way, and comes out better.. it looks weird with no quarter or front fender trim, cuz then it goes right into that big strip on the bumbers.. leave it on, just take off the side trim and call it a day
