Bending WGA mounting bracket

Has anyone ever attempted to do this to shorten the WGA rod? or is this the worst idea I've come up with since my attempt to drink a beer over my new laptop idea.

I know you want me to say it's a good idea but I'm not going to. It may be a quick easy fix but those are the ones that give you trouble in the long run. However, my WGA rod is adjustable and it doesn't look like it would be hard to fab an adjustable rod for your's...you'd have to take the WGA off though and I'm guessing your trying to avoid that.
I don't think drinking a beer over a laptop is a bad idea...just be careful [Image: biggrin.gif]

I dont mind taking the WGA off, infact I have a 1/4" course threaded coupler sitting here. Unfortunately I do not have any die's here, I'd need a right and left hand thread too, which means I'd need to buy two kits.

I think I'm going to attempt it after I get off work. I got about 45 minutes to kill before I go look at a new apartment. I figure just slap it in the vice and put some elbow grease into it. Right now it can get the rod on/off the pivot arm easily. I just need to bend it back like 1/4-1/2" and it should have enough preload to stop rattling, and build the correct amount of boost. I'm pretty sure the wastegate flapper is just worn down from years of being siezed partially open.

As for drinking beer over the laptop, its not a horrible idea...unless its your 11th beer. Then its not very bright, and you have to wait 2 months to get the thing back.

Well I can safely say bending the WGA bracket is not necessarily a bad idea. Although that bracket is ALOT stronger than it looks. I managed to bend it about a 1/8" or so. I also managed to squeeze on one more washer on my linkage. Now I can pull 15psi consistantly. I think rather than attempting to bend the metal again, I'll just wait until I can get my hands on some left/right hand dies and make my rod adjustable.

Do you really need any dies at all. I'd just cut the eye off and cut out a piece of the rod. Weld on a piece of threaded rod and weld the eye to a threaded coupler add a jamb nut and yer done. You'd only need a left hand thread if you wanted to make it adjustable without taking the eye off rhe pin. This one works like a miniature tierod end. Actually you could probably find an adjustable end of some sort with some looking(Princess Auto maybe) I didn't make mine but here's a pic.

Hmm, that looks pretty good. I was actually going to stop by princess auto at lunch today and see what I could scrouge up. I hate going there though, I always find something that I 'need' on sale. I was at a bolt supply place yesterday and the guy said the thing I need is called a 'clevis yoke' which has the female threads on one end and the eyelet on the other. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I finally found myself a clevis yoke. Found some alloy grade 8 fine thread 1/4" rod for it too. So tomorrow I'm going to drop off my actuator and rod at the welding place down the street and let them have at it. Then hopefully I'll eliminate one more rattle and be boosting a little bit higher. I'll try and get a picture of WGA when it's down. Maybe snap a couple of my bird and let you all see what I have to deal with on a daily basis.
