Ball joints?

Ok i am trying to put new ball joints on Cristina's TC and i am still on the first side. My question is , how tight are they supposed to press in? I used the press on the first side and it goes in but I can knock it back out by hand.I took it out and returned it for another and that one is the same way.I was offered "oversized" ball joints. Are they supposed to be that way and they tighten up over time? Or are they supposed to press in as tight as they are to come out? Anyone use the "oversized" ones?

The sad thing is that this is all over the wheel bearing going bad and it did not even need ball joints yet.I will send a pic of the wheel bearing in. It acually fused the rotor and spindle together!

GT,

those things should be tight.

after they are in, a nuclear war couldn't separate the ball joint from the a-arm

When I was installing the new ones, it took a lot of torque on the tool to get them in ... to the point where I thought either the tool or the breaker bar was gonna snap

the only problem is to make sure they are aligned vertically before you start torquing that bad boy, otherwise they will be in crooked

maybe they sold you the wrong size?

I got mine at Autozone for $33 each

plus they came w/ grease fittings

hope this helps

Thats where I got mine to.I never noticed that they have the same wear indicator on them that the Ford ones have but they have a grease fitting in it too.

Well I put them in and all though they are not as tight as I wanted I dont see any harm in it either.
