Never done this before--must the lower control arm be removed to R & R the lower ball joints IAW the Ford Shop Manual?

It can be done on the car if you have one of those "big C clamp" type of ball joint removal / installation tools.

Its a huge pain in the BACK if you do it like that though... .trust me.
