Bad Day/I think I have 4.10s

Yesterday started good and got bad. I got it registered first which was good. It started off me trying to put an aftermarket stereo in. The stock one wasn't working right. I wasn't getting power where/when I needed it.

I bought the wrong adapter so I had to drive it into Wal-Mart to get the correct one. Was driving along and it bucked once and started running like crap and not boosting. At first I thought I blew a IC hose but it wasn't. I was lost. Limped to Wal-Mart and when I came out it was semi cool and I pulled the IC off. Immediately saw coolant and got really worried. Then I saw a spark plug wire had come off??? The coolant was leaking from the tube going to the firewall.

Got it fixed and took the highway home. Noticed I am running really high RPMs at 70. Like around 3000 and it was screaming at 90. I looked at the calculator in the FAQ and it said I was running 4.10s? how can I confirm this? Any other ways this could happen?

Is it a 5spd or an auto? If its auto like mine, I cruise at 65mph my rpm's are around 3100-3200, so at 90 you can imagine what rpm I'm at.

An easy way is to mark a tire and mark the driveshaft. Rotate the wheel a full rotation, and while you are rotating it, count how many times the driveshaft rotates around. If its 4.10's it will rotation just a little over 4 complete times.

Yeh. I pulled a SN95 rear end I found on a Turbo Coupe and when I did the tire trick it had 4:10's, motorsport 4:10's. So you can never assume that just because its on a particular car that it has stock gears, especially if you arent the original owner.

When you going? Tonight we may go to Irwindale tonight. hyou and danny should come out.

It may be possible that it used to be an auto and was swapped to a 5 speed, but kept the stock gears. This is what is up with my car, along with that it has 15" rims on it. stock 5 speed should be 3.55 and stock auto would be 3.73, I know at 70 Im 3000 rpms or higher. Also have you checked to see if your speedo is reading correct by like gps.

I myself plan to keep the 3.73's, kinda like the best of both worlds. Its easy to drive on the street, but should be able to get speed up for a 1/4 mile run if I ever get to a track.

I still haven't checked but my speedo is correct as far as I can tell. Ill have to see if I can get someone to get me on radar. I don't have a GPS that shows speed.
