i gotta pull the turbo for a complete checkup (I just bought the car and the turbo don't work, but what can u expect for 200 bux?)... is there a good manual (hayes, bentley) that deals with the turbo in our tbirds? I looked in the FAQ page but didn't find anything. any help would be appreciated.

If you just intend to check the turbo to make sure there's no play in the impellar shaft, you don't need to remove the turbo at all. Just detach the black rubber hose leading towards the VAM away from the turbo and put the rubber end of a pencil in through the turbo inlet to make sure the blade spins freely and has extremely little or no side play at all. You may even be able to use your fingers if your hands are big enough. If you determine that you do need a new turbo, let us know and I'm sure one of us can write up some directions for you. Good luck.

everybody's told me that already. But between my ignorance and stubbornness (and my creeping suspicion that something's REALLY wrong in there) it's coming out. Either way it's getting taken apart, determined what's wrong, cleaned, prepped, put back together, and reinstalled in the car. Which leads to another question: where would I be able to find a kit with new seals/gaskets for both inside the turbo and the ones I ruin when I take the turbo out? (like the oil line, exhaust connections, that sorta thing)

Don't even bother with the turbo if it's bad. Look on Ebay under turbocharger cartridges. MJM turbo has an ongoing auction for T3 CHRA's that are rebuilt for $125. You can't balance your turbo on your own. If you insist on playing with your turbo, tubonetics has rebuild kits for your turbo.

Were you told the Turbo wasn't working or does the gauge just read 0 psi? If the car feels like it has a reasonable amount of power, then the nipple on the back of the gauge cluster may have broken off or you may have a leak elsewhere in the hoses. If you were told the turbo was bad and you are sure of it or if there isn't any power then ignore all of this.

Just went through engine swap with a wrecked 1987 Turbocoupe. Going to become a street legal racecar to tinker with. Have a T3 waiting to go in when I get everything ironed out.
