"B" cam and wiring w/g open...

in a previous post, pete d asked me to find out what cam i have since i am only pulling 15"Hg at idle

the previous owner told me he thinks there is a "B" cam in it and its from a n/a 2.3...would that explain the 15"?

also - if i was to wire the wastegate open - would the car be drivable?...i want to try and do some streetdyno runs with the car running 'n/a' and then on boost for comparison

yes i have some rediculous ideas sometimes and i welcome critcism [Image: biggrin.gif]

Instead of wiring the wastegate rod open somehow, just take the c-clip off the rod where it hooks to the turbine housing. This should eliminate boost...

cool and cool

im not really sure how to read cam specs but i see the lobe seperation is only 1* less than stock...lift is higher and duration a little higher...because there is more duration and less lobe seperation does that mean more overlap and less idle vaccum?

does this seem like a good cam to you?

I'm not going to pretend ot understand cam design.I know there is a science to it but I'm still at the voodoo magic stage. I kind of looked at the specs of the B cam, what little there is on the stockers and then also at the A237 which I have and can only get 15" vacuum from. If I had to guess and that's all this is, I would say you should get more than 15" from the B. It has a lot less duration than the A237.

Isit a good cam: I don't know and what I like you might hate. I have no experience with the B. Is the A237 a good cam? It idles rough, is dead until 3K rpms and vibrates the whole car below 60 mph in 5th gear. But hit 3K with the boost on and it screams.

Oh! you heard that over the whine of the turbo, the throbbing of twin straight through mufflers, the shreading of tires and the knashing of gears, all while my head was incased in a helmet I couldn't even breath in. It must have been due to the mutiple G forces pressing me back in the seat and forcing the air out of my lungs. [Image: biggrin.gif] That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!

i have an A237 also, and I also get between 12 and 15 inches of vacuum. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I was almost kinda worried, and a N/A motor in good running condition is supposed to be around 22 inches....

Actually the vacuum range for a motor in good condition (and no radical cams) is 18 - 22 but 4 cylinders tend toward the low end and 6s and 8s toward the high end.
