i need a new right side axle for the ol tc. the flange has been bent somewhere along the line, and of course it vibrates like crazy at highway speed. has anyone tried the ones on summit racing?

cant really seem to find anything used, and for what its worth. i'd almost rather by new. unless someone local has something. just looking for a replacement.

I have one from an 87 TC if that will work. $30 plus shipping. If the 84 doesn't have ABS you would probably just need to knock off the ABS ring. If you are interested, send my your zip code and I will figure shipping.

Chris, when an axle went bad in my 86 Tbird 5.0, I had a pair of new ones made by Moser Engineering. They had the specs on file. Cost was reasonable (at least it was 6 or 7 years ago when I got them)..... A pair was about $220 and came with new axle bearings and seals. Give them a call at 260-726-6689.
I am pretty sure 87-88 are a little longer than 83 to 86.

Hopefully this link works correctly. It is one that RDOG posted a while back about axle lengths. It does not however, specifically address the lengths of TC 8.8 axles prior to 1987. Based on the length listed at the Summit link for the replacement axle of 30inches and the chart length posted for the 87-87 TC axle of 29.91 inches, it would appear that they are the same. I have the axles out of the car and they do indeed match the listed length of just under 30.

I have found through personal experience that not all TC axles are the same. I tried using my '86 axles from the 7.5 in the 8.8 when I originally installed it and they didn't work. I *think* it was the area that rides on the bearing that was too short and only sat about a quarter of the way on the bearing (this was over 10 years ago so the memory is fuzzy at best). The axles may be the same length, but I have a feeling the axle housings of the 8.8 are shorter than the 7.5. :dunno:

So. Coming back to this thread. I went to the junkyard, must have gotten an 86 axle. Go figure. So before I take it back, I'm going to order an 86 side bearing, and see if I can fix it that way.
