If I disconnect the linkage at the transmission, there is no binding in the transmission and I can take my hand and move it into park.
Could the button on the shift handle be bad? Any brilliant ideas on how to adjust/repair/replace it?

Can you move the shifter while it is disconnected from the transmission? Does the button feel smooth as you press it, maybe take the console apart and see if something fell into the mechanism or something.
